A much loved Dorset name is no more...

Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset will now be know as Weldmar Hospicecare Trust - Caring for Dorset.

Weldmar Hospicecare Trust – a new beginning for Hospice care in Dorset. Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset Trust continues to serve the Dorset community under the new name of Weldmar Hospicecare Trust – Caring for Dorset.

The three local charities merged in 2004 to become the only organisation to provide hospice and palliative care in North, South and WestDorset. A new Chairman, Dr Geoffrey Guy , was appointed in November, supported by a new board of Directors who are working towards improving current services and future strategies for the Trust and the people of Dorset.

Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester will remain, as always, providing support and care to both patients and families. Trimar Hospice at Greenhill in Weymouth will continue to offer day care services for patients living within the community. Hammick House in Poundbury provides an Information Centre and is the centre for all the Community staff who work throughout the County.

The Trust aims to improve the levels of service and support it provides. Alison Ryan Chief Executive said:

”2007 will see several enhancements of patient services starting with new day hospice services throughout the county. The first opens in Sturminster Newton in March. We are also providing 7 day a week service in the community for the first time and hope to expand our service to families and carers. Our new name and logo and the skills and experience of our new Chairman and Board give us a platform from which to launch new developments and strategies later in the year. As always, we are grateful for the continuous support and efforts of our loyal fundraisers and members of the public who make a significant contribution towards the ongoing survival of the Trust.”

“Last year we provided 282 people with 3879 nights in the hospice. 12% of these people had diseases other than cancer. Specialist nurses made over 17400 telephone and over 6000 face to face contacts with 673 patients in the community and our specialist nurses working in Dorset General Hospital had over 1300 face to face consultations with patients there.“

An open morning will be held on Tuesday 27 February 2007 which will give health professionals and members of the community an opportunity to meet the new management team and share information and plans for the future.
