Befriending and Caring, Supporting and Helping, raising funds - these words sum up just what Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset Trust volunteers do for patients, carers and for the service.
Befriending and Caring
Where to start! Volunteers help patients and carers at home in many practical
and supportive ways. Befriending patients and their families as well as taking
patients for hospital appointments, walking dogs when their owners are unwell,
sitting with patients whilst their carer has a well-earned break. These are
some of the ways in which volunteers help to care for patients.
Some patients live alone and find getting out difficult. They enjoy our Social Groups run largely by our volunteers. Five groups meet weekly across our area. Volunteers drive guests to and from the meetings, serve a good lunch and arrange trips and talks. Many friendships are made and a happy caring atmosphere prevails.
Volunteers
We have a wealth of volunteers who are actively involved:
* At the hospice itself
* Helping in the ward areas
* Serving refreshments to patients, families and staff
* Reception duties
* Helping in the Day Care Centre
* Social activities
* Visiting
* Flower arranging
* Driving-transporting patients in the minibus or private car
* Helping to feed patients
The above are but some examples of the special contribution made by volunteers in adding something special for patients and their families.
If you have some spare time and want to help others, then why not contact us for more information.
