Complementary Health

Complementary Therapies
Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset Trust offers the benefits of complementary therapy at home or Hammick House to patients, carers and bereaved who meet certain criteria and who find traveling difficult.

All the complementary health practitioners are trained and experienced and are registered with a recognised organisation. They have also attended our own training course and have cleared various recruitment checks.

How does the scheme work?
At your first consultation, a comprehensive history will be taken by a qualified practitioner to ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatment for your needs.

The service is free for the first 3 treatments. Should you wish to continue after 3 treatments, then a private arrangement must be made with your practitioner.

Therapies Available
These therapies aim to promote well-being and quality of life, however, they are not curative.

Aromatherapy
This is the therapeutic use of aromatic substances called essential oils. They enhance your physical and emotional well-being, promoting balance and harmony. Essential oils are fragrant, volatile liquids found in the glands of plants and are extracted from the flowers, seeds, roots, bark or leaves.

A qualified aromatherapist is able to choose a blend of oils to meet your specific needs, each with individual therapeutic properties and use them in a variety of ways including massage, ointments, reams, inhalations, etc

Massage
This is a gentle way to enhance your physical and emotional well-being, with or without essential oils, promoting warmth and comfort to relieve stress, anxiety and tension.

Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the principle that reflex areas on the hands and feet correspond to parts of the body, thus aiming to release congestion and promote the flow of energy.

Reiki
Reiki is a method of healing, aiming to restore well-being, harmonising to mind body and spirit. Central to this approach is the concept that there is universal life energy and when this energy is diminished, ill-health can arise. There is no religious connotation and therefore, a belief system is not necessary to receive this method of healing.

Consultations
Can provide an opportunity for you to discuss complementary and alternative medicines with one of our nurses who has extensive knowledge in this area. A financial donation to Joseph Weld & Trimar Hospice and CancerCare Dorset Trust is appreciated for this service.
